France recommends not giving the third vaccine with Moderna

The French Health Authority recommended today to exclusively use Pfizer vaccines for the third dose, pending the opinion of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on Moderna's.

Until now, this independent body recommended the one from Pfizer but did not rule out the other messenger RNA vaccine on the market.

However, a recommendation issued today advises that only those vaccines that have already received the green light for that purpose from the EMA, that is, from Pfizer, be used for this third dose.

"Various national health authorities have brought to light questions" about the effects of Moderna in the elderly and vulnerable people, who are those concerned by the third dose, explains the French body.

In this context, indicates the French Authority, it is advisable to wait for the EMA studies.

Several countries have indicated that Moderna's vaccine can cause cardiovascular effects, although these are rare.
