Spain will contribute more than 39 million euros to international organizations - World News

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday a battery of voluntary contributions to international organizations worth more than 39 million euros to support their work in defense of human rights and security.

These are, for the most part, annual voluntary contributions with which Spain shows its support for programs or objectives of organizations such as the UN or the OSCE and with which it also seeks to promote the presence of Spaniards among the senior positions of international organizations.

The reference of the Government meeting includes a list of 88 organizations or plans, many of them promoted by the UN, to which Spain dedicates a total of 39,167,760 euros.

Among the contributions, the 4.3 million euros that it contributes to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for projects related to the covid and the other 4 million of contribution to the emergency program of the World Organization of the Health (WHO).

WHO is also going to receive 1 million for its Emergency Program and another million for the Malaria Program.

In terms of health, another contribution of 1.5 million to UNITAID for covid, HIV / AIDS, malaria and hepatitis C programs, details the reference, which also includes 1.5 million for the International Committee of the Cross. Roja (ICRC) dedicated to its projects in the Sahel.

Another chapter that will have important Spanish contributions is that of refugees.

Thus, the Government has allocated 4 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and its platform to support the Comprehensive Regional Framework for Protection and Solutions (MIRPS) for migrants in Central America and another million more to the Organization of States. Americanos (OEA) and the MIRPS Fund.

In addition, Spain will make a contribution of 3,000,000 euros to the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA).

The Afghan population will receive Spanish support through a contribution of 2.5 million to UNICEF and its program to Support the Girls of Afghanistan, and another of 1.5 million to the United Nations Population Fund and its maternal health projects -children in Afghanistan.

The UN will also receive a contribution of 2 million for its volunteer program (UNDP) and 1.25 for the scholarship program for young people in the program of the Department of Economy and Social Affairs (UNDESA).

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which will receive almost 2 million euros for its technical cooperation fund, the Physical Security fund, the Spanish Safeguards Support program and the Marie Sklodowska-Curie scholarship program.

Other contributions of more than one million euros will go to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its projects in the Western Mediterranean and West Africa; the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) (1.7 million).
