Most people view email as just a transmitter of information. So you have to use it to stand out from the rest.
The 7 emails discussed in this article. Weekly time spent sending mail will help you strengthen your friendships and business relationships, stay focused on new opportunities, and stay up-to-date on your industry. None of these emails should take more than 5 minutes, but each will help you advance your career.
(Messages on Slack and other messengers are also good, but I prefer email because most people have inbox open all day.)
No1. Thank you email
Imagine that you open your mail after lunch and see a discount on emails on AliExpress, an e-mail with a simple and short letter subject line: “Thank you”. Now imagine how much one word can improve your day.
People like to feel valued. Instead of dwelling on everything you need to do in the morning, take time and thank someone for what they do for you.
“Thank you for your support during the last project” Or “It is very good that we are working together. Thank you for the knowledge and experience you share. “ – These are simple and important words that everyone wants to hear (read).
No2. A letter in words of admiration
The fastest way to get what you want is to get to know someone who already has it. Send a message to a person who is one or two steps down the career ladder and show how their work has affected you and also express your admiration.
I have been sending cold emails every week for the last three years and many of these emails have resulted in excellent phone calls, which in turn has led to closer relationships and exciting opportunities. Amazing things happen when the people we admire become friends. It is not absorption. Sincerity is most important.
No3. Email to support someone
Early in my career, Conor Neil, a leadership expert and the person I most admire in the business world, sent me short messages saying that he was watching my activities and progress. The fact that he found time for it meant a lot to me.
There is something magical about having someone you do not know who cares about you. Often this is more convincing than when a loved one praises you 🙂 One sentence can change a person forever, can you imagine? Neil taught me to always support others when you yourself are trying to elevate.
No4. Email someone you just met
In his book The Power of Habit, Charles Duheig writes that when it comes to learning something new, “weak ties,” or our new acquaintances, outweigh the “strong ties” of our old comrades.
This is because people who move in different circles around you are influenced by different ideas, while people we see regularly tend to have the same conversations.
Contact the person you just met at training or through mutual friends. Find out if they want to chat. Expand your field of communication.
No5. Letter to former employees
Email correspondence with my high school friends greatly improved my quarantine: I realized that the easiest way to make friends is to keep in touch with old friends. This also applies to business communication.
Communicating with new people is harder, so why not focus your energy on the people you used to work with? This is a good way to understand what is happening in your industry + strengthen business connections.
No6. Letter to the manager on Thursday afternoon
Protect your boss from collecting reports from each employee over the weekend about what they did during the work week. Let your manager know in a letter what you have been able to do and what it will take.
You can also write down what you want to do during the remaining 2 working days of the week and explain that you are ready to switch to another if needed. So you show your organization, independence and loyalty.
No7. Send an email on Friday afternoon
When I spoke to Melody Wilding, author of Trust Yourself and Licensed Master Social Worker, she offered to send me a summary of the week on Friday afternoon.
Write down your victories, a few things you learned and any ideas that made your week wonderful. This is a simple exercise, but it will help you get out of work and find that you have done enough for this week and you can relax in peace.
