Uncontrolled fall

The Chinese space agency reported that the remains of the Long March 5B rocket fell into the sea off the coast of the Philippines on Sunday. The largest fragment of the rocket's main segment, which caused great concern among observers, burned up as it entered the atmosphere. The remaining parts fell into the Sulu Sea southeast of the city of Puerto Princesa in the Philippines. Philippine authorities have not yet announced if anyone was injured.Malaysia's space agency said it spotted rocket debris that caught fire as it reentered the atmosphere before falling northeast of the island of Borneo. The organization stressed that burning debris had crossed Malaysian airspace around the country's largest state, Sarawak.

CriticalThe Long March 5B rocket was not equipped with a controlled decay mechanism. According to NASA, China is taking a significant risk by freely dropping such large objects to Earth. The People's Republic of China has not shared specific information about the trajectory of its Long March 5B rocket falling back to Earth, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said Saturday.Nelson adds that all nations exploring space must follow established safety procedures, as falling spacecraft debris can result in death or property damage. "This is essential for the responsible use of space and for the safety of people here on Earth," added Nelson.
