Upcoming Lucid EV will be the first on the market to offer support for Dolby Atmos surround sound

Lucid Motors is preparing to launch its first electric vehicle, the high-end Lucid Air sedan. And now it turned out that one of its features will be support for Dolby Atmos technology, implemented through the use of a Surreal Sound audio system with 21 speakers.

In a video that the company posted on Twitter, it says that the sound in the car can be adjusted not only horizontally, but also vertically. This means that the music inside the car can be directed higher or lower, which in itself is quite curious. Dolby Music Director Tim Pryde said Lucid's solution is unique to the automotive industry.

It's worth noting that the car is actually a pretty good environment for Dolby Atmos. A huge advantage is the controlled, isolated interior space, and the use of 21 speakers in such an environment will allow for truly fantastic sound.

Lucid will use Dolby Atmos technology not only for music playback but also for audio signals. For example, if a passenger in the back seat is not wearing a seat belt, the signaling sound will be directed exactly to the place where he is sitting.

Lucid isn't the only company with a lot of emphasis on sound. Audi recently announced that it has partnered with Sonos on the upcoming Q4 E-Tron vehicle. More details on this partnership will be revealed in April.
