Mexico will visit El Salvador on Wednesday to consolidate its leadership on the sixth date of Concacaf's octagonal to the Qatar-2022 World Cup, in which Costa Rica will try to take advantage of the United States' downturn and Panama defends third place against Canada.

In a round day, Mexico achieved a 3-0 win over Honduras on Sunday with which it regained first place in the World Cup and the confidence lost after the last two draws.

The team led by Gerardo 'Tata' Martino was delighted with the good performance of their offensive figures Raúl Jiménez and Hirving Lozano, who closed the win against Honduras with a spectacular target.

"I can say that we see with good eyes the volume of play that the team has (...) Difficult games are coming, but we do not see beyond the one that follows on Wednesday against El Salvador," said a satisfied 'Tata' Martino.

Before the third and last day of October, the 'Tri' leads the group table with 11 points while their rival on Wednesday, El Salvador, occupies the sixth position with five points.

The top three finishers of the octagonal will get the direct ticket to Qatar-2022 while the fourth will compete in an intercontinental playoff.

El Salvador does not want to stop dreaming so soon of qualifying for their first World Cup since Spain-1982, but on Sunday they suffered a hard blow in the comeback that Costa Rica, a direct rival, applied to them to beat them 2-1.

United States, injured

With its victory against El Salvador, the first in the octagonal, Costa Rica rose to fifth place with six points, one from the United States and Panama and two from Canada.

Keylor Navas' squad will have the option to move into qualifying spots on Wednesday's visit to a United States experiencing confusing times.

Against Panama, the Americans conceded their first loss in the group and let all the momentum of the previous two victories escape.

Without being able to count on his star Christian Pulisic, coach Gregg Berhalter was questioned for revolutionizing the eleven against Panama and leaving the young Ricardo Pepi, the scorer of the last games, on the bench.

Panama and Canada, direct rivals

After their disappointing goalless draw in Jamaica, Canada will host Panama in a duel between the two teams that have been fighting to accompany Mexico and the United States to the top of the table.

The star Alphonso Davies, a Bayern Munich figure, and the rest of the Canadian tips sinned from a lack of gunpowder in Kingston.

The good performance of goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau allowed, at least, that Canada remain one of the two undefeated teams so far, along with Mexico, in their struggle to qualify for their second World Cup, after Mexico-1986.

Panama, which debuted in a World Cup in Russia-2018, will have its first litmus test on its visit to Toronto to stay in the leading trio of the octagonal.

Honduras and Jamaica, duel at the well

Wednesday's day is completed with the clash between Honduras and Jamaica, the last classified in the group that are still looking for their first victory.

The Central American squad, with three points in five games, will be local in San Pedro Sula in a clash that could be vital for their questioned coach, the Uruguayan Fabián Coito.

Jamaica, for its part, enjoyed great chances to achieve the three points on Sunday against Canada but had to settle for a draw that keeps them in the well of the table.

Time is running out for the 'Reggae Boyz' to redirect their mediocre start in the tournament and keep their dreams of qualifying for their second World Cup after France-1998,
