A judge in Chester, England, rejected this Monday for the third time the release on bail of Benjamin Mendy, a Manchester City player, accused of four counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

Mendy, former player of the French national team and 2018 world champion in Russia, has been in custody for seven weeks.

The 27-year-old defenseman is accused of attacking three different women, one of them under the age of 18, at his home in Cheshire.

The charges he faces are rape, for an incident in October 2020, sexual abuse of a woman in January this year, and rape of a woman in August.

The trial in which his guilt will be decided will take place on January 24, 2022.
