US: Russia Oil Ban Under Consideration - International Price Rises

The United States is considering an even stricter ban on crude oil imports from Russia.

With a series of sanctions against Russia, the US is increasingly considering banning oil imports from that country, according to Bloomberg. Both US President Joe Biden and White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki did not rule out the possibility.

Two days earlier, Biden had said all possibilities were “on the table” when asked if his country would ban oil and gas supplies from Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.

The United States imported more than 20.4 million barrels of crude oil and refined products per month – on average – in 2021 from Russia. That represents 8% of oil imports for US imports, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), cited by Reuters.

The White House, through spokeswoman Jen Psaki, said it was “evaluating” concerns about the impact on the global oil market and the needs of Americans. That is why the US ban on importing oil and gas has not progressed, at least so far.

US: US crude oil prices are “galloping” – another 5% rise

Also, North Sea Brent crude for May delivery closed at $118.11 a barrel, the last time a deal was recorded in August 2008. The day before.
