Employers are willing to forgive a developer for a lack of formal work experience if they see a portfolio with achievements and basic technical knowledge in a field of interest to them. For example, knowledge of one programming language or experience in creating websites. Without knowledge and experience, it will be almost impossible for a novice developer to find a job.
