Report: Only 19% out of 2,000 people have used ChatGPT

It seems the entire world is using ChatGPT , but that's not the case, according to a new survey by Morgan Stanley. A study of 2,000 people in April that focused on AI adoption found that only 19% of respondents had used ChatGPT. And less than 9% of respondents used Google's Bard chatbot.

According to business insider, the survey also found that the vast majority of people who don't use chatbots said they were unlikely to use the tools in the next six months.

"It's important for investors to keep in mind how early it is," Morgan Stanley analysts wrote.

People mostly use chatbot services to learn about a new topic, and the monetizable usage patterns may go further than that.

Researching new products, comparing prices and shopping are popular uses among early adopters, which Morgan Stanley said could translate to advertising revenue.

The impact of AI on e-commerce and travel can drive revenue as companies monetize AI-powered searches and recommendations. When shopping online, 56% of respondents said they started with Google Search, YouTube or Bard.

Online travel searches were more split between Google and travel services like Expedia and Bookings, and 37% of travel searches start with Google, compared to 33% of searches that start on travel sites.

Morgan Stanley said Google could maintain its edge with "the most comprehensive and personalized travel search offering," which the company is already capturing through AI and Bard-generated search results.
